PacSun
(Pacific Sunwear)
Pacific
Sunwear of California, Inc. is a specialty retailer of
primarily mall-based stores selling everyday casual apparel,
accessories and footwear designed to meet the lifestyle
needs of active teens and young adults under three distinct
concepts: PacSun, d.e.m.o., and One Thousand Steps, along
with its PacSun Outlet division. With more than 1,100
locations in 50 states and Puerto Rico, total 2005 annual
sales were over $1.39 billion.
Pacific Sunwear's Training Needs
Pacific
Sunwear was growing in leaps and bounds. With this rapid
growth, there was a need to have more consistency in merchandising
processing and procedures, and a way to communicate those
to the merchandising organization.
Challenges
Pacific
Sunwear's Training Department was not staffed to support
its growing merchandising area's technical training needs.
Although there was some rudimentary documentation for merchandising
areas, there were no defined templates and formats for technical
training and no training tools to accompany the documentation,
such as Trainer's Guides, Learning Surveys, Practice Exercises
and Training Aids.
